Thousands of flights have been canceled or delayed.
An active, massive winter storm is impacting much of the United States this week, with ice, snow, and high winds. The storm has a snow track from coast to coast, with nearly 25 million Americans across 219 states under the winter advisory.
According to the FAA, more than 1,200 flights were canceled on Wednesday. Travelers affected should check with their airlines as new rules issued by the Department of Transportation now apply to cancelations and delays.
The National Weather Service published a Winter Storm Severity Index (WSSI) through Friday, stating, “Moderate, Major and Extreme winter weather impacts are expected from the West Coast to New England with travel not advised in the Upper Midwest due to blizzard conditions.“
